Soy and Cancer - Some Benefits

Soy and Cancer One of the benefits of living in Japan is the availability of one of the world`s healthiest foods, soy! (Pictured a farm in Japan) Japan is one of the leading soy producers of the world and you can eat it in so many different forms: as a bean which is often eaten as a vegetable with dinner, or even as a snack with beer. Of course soy is made into tofu as well. Any form of soy isvery healthy and a great protein alternative to meet. You can even eat soy in burger form! As mentioned elsewhere soy is made into miso which can be used as a dip for vegetables with mayonnaise mixed in, or as a great tasting soup. You can add vegetables and tofu to your miso soup to make it even healthier.
"One of the healthiest changes you can make to your diet is to incorporate whole soy foods on a regular basis. Soy is rich in protein, iron and compounds called isoflavones, which seem to protect against hormone-driven cancers such as prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women. Soy also helps protect your heart, and new research indicates it may help protect against lung cancer as well. I recommend one to two daily servings of soy in relatively whole and unrefined forms such as a cup of soymilk, a half cup of tofu, tempeh or green soybeans (edamame) or roasted soy nuts. You can also easily swap meat for tofu in dishes - baked tofu works well as a meat replacement in fajitas, stir fries and casseroles."
