Macha Green Tea

Macha Green Tea - A student of mine asked me if I had tried it.

She was raving about it, and drank it all the time. I said that I had never heard of it. She promptly got up and left the room. Then she came back with several packets of instant matcha green tea - (it is pronounced "macha" green tea.)

Matcha means: finely milled Japanese green tea.

It is really easy to make, you just add hot water and mix. Probably best to let it steep for a minute after mixing it.

It is matcha is sweeter than regular green tea. It is kind ofa sweet, yet bitter taste. It is really nice.

I encourage you to try it for the health benefits of green tea, and for a break from regular green tea.

Matcha is also used to flavor sweets and mochi (a kind of ricecake).

Health Benefits of Matcha

"The health benefits of green tea and matcha have also raised significant interest in North America and indeed the rest of the World. Consequently, it can now be found in numerous health food products ranging from cereal to energy bars. In 2003, researchers from the University of Colorado found that the concentration of the antioxidant EGCG available from drinking matcha is up to 137 times greater than the amount of EGCG available from other commercially available green teas.[11]" --According to Wikipedia.org

Oprah raved about Matcha`s ability to help you lose weight. It is reputedly good for boosting metabolism. Japanese tend to be very slim people, and perhaps green tea and a healthy dietare two of the reasons why. As Matcha is finely ground andmixed in with the water (not in a tea bag) the whole leafgoes into the tea. So perhaps this equals more health benefits for the drinker.

It is said that pound for pound, matcha contains more antioxidants than blueberries.
