Japanese Art Print

Japanese Art Print, when one thinks of Japanese art one naturally envisions origami, wood block prints, or some of the other traditional art of Japan. However there are many kinds of art that many people from the West are not familiar with.

Origami

The art of paper folding, commonly known as origami, started in the 17th century AD and was later on popularized outside Japan in the mid 1900s. Some historians and scholars would say that just like much of Japanese culture and tradition, origami originated from China. The word origami came from the Japanese word “Ori” which means folding and “Kame” which means paper.

Japanese Body Art

This art also known as Irezumi or horimono, otherwise known as Japanese tattoo art or body art has a very long history.

It is said that the early Japanese people or Ainu decorated their body with paint and used facial tattoos. This was done by the Ainu people for social and decorative purposes, however scholars also believed that these tattoos were not only to represent one`s social status but claimed that it had some spiritual purpose.

Japanese Poems

Poetry has been a major Japanese influence and contribution to the literature of the world, but just like the many apects of Japan, Japanese poetry was greatly influenced by the Chinese.

Japanese poets were introduced to Chinese poetry during the Tang Dynasty, yet it took the Japanese poets time to fully grasp and include poetry in their culture. Nowadays the main forms of Japanese poetry can be divided into 2 types - experimental poetry and poetry intended or written to revive traditional ways.
